By , June 19, 2026

Supporters of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai allegedly clashed in a Youth and Women Empowerment Programme in Nyota Ward, Kuresoi North, resulting in several injuries on Friday, June 19, 2026.

The tension only worsened when MP Mutai showed up at the venue at Tulwet School, which was where the empowerment event had been planned and was supposed to be attended by leaders who were pro-Gov. Kihika.

People Daily Digital watched videos on Friday, 19, 2026, which featured scenes of running battles among groups of youths, after which the programme was abruptly ended.

Several people are feared injured with no fatalities reported, but the circumstances of the shooting were not independently confirmed at the time of writing.

The chaos later spilt over the event site as angry citizens were reported to have wrecked a car believed to be owned by the MP. Other videos featured parts of the crowd throwing stones at a motorcade that was attached to the legislator.

Some of the residents could be heard shouting slogans against the MP, with others extolling the virtues of Governor Kihika during the heated exchanges.

During the rioting, a welfare bus owned by a section of the residents was also burnt. The incident was blamed on rival groups that allegedly disrupted the programme, with supporters of the governor accusing the MP’s allies of the same.

Yet, a few residents still demanded that the area be kept free from violence and that peace, order and respect be maintained for development programmes in the community and that no community empowerment initiative be disrupted.

As of this writing, there has been no statement from either Governor Kihika or MP Mutai. No statements had also been made by police or the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) about the clashes, injuries or gunshots.
