Finally, Ruth Matete buries her late hubby

It was a solemn relief for Kenyan gospel singer Ruth Matete who after a prolonged dispute was able to bury her late husband, John Apewajoye aka Beloved John, yesterday.

He was buried at the Lang’ata Cemetery in a sombre ceremony attended only by a handful of close family members and friends.

“Yes, we are at the burial at this moment. The Nigerian Embassy in Kenya allowed us to go on with the burial, but this was after writing many letters to them,” Matete’s lawyer Robert Odanga told Spice.

John succumbed to burn injuries sustained in a fire incident at their home in Athi River on April 11.

However, a tussle between the Matete family and Nigerian Embassy in Kenya prevented the burial of his body.

This was even after his family in Nigeria cleared the way for the burial by giving a written consent to allow the Damu Yako hit singer and former Tusker Project Fame winner to bury her husband in Kenya. The two had been in marriage since November 2019.
