Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Senate retreat kicks off in Naivasha

Senators are expected to converge in Naivasha to take stock of their performance over the last three sessions and iron out their differences with governors in the County Revenue Allocation debacle.

 The retreat, themed “Shaping the Senate’s Legacy: Reflections, Strategies and the Path Forward,” will bring together Senators and key stakeholders to evaluate the Senate’s performance over the past three sessions and strategize for the upcoming fourth session, which officially begins on February 11, 2025.

Senate speaker Amason Kingi is set to officially open the retreat after which speakers from various government agencies and counties will take the floor and share their insights.

Some of the speakers will be senators, representatives of the National Government, the County Assemblies Forum, the Council of Governors and the Commission on Revenue Allocation.

Ruto’s North Eastern tour

President William Ruto is expected to intensify his development tour of North Eastern as he clocks the second day in the region.

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the head of state will inspect the ongoing and completed project, he is also expected to launch new projects.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the president pledged to end ID vetting in North Eastern to facilitate easy access to the vital document by the residents from the region.

He emphasised that the move is geared towards ending the discriminative practice that has left people from the region being treated as non-Kenyans.

“The time of northern Kenyan to be isolated is over this region is good part of Kenya and deserve to be treated as Kenyans. Kesho niko na ceremony kubwa ya kuondoa, once and for all, ile maneno ya vetting ambayo ilikuwa inawagandamiza watu wa Northern Kenya. Wamefanywa kuwa kama si Wakenya wakati wa kutafuta kitambulisho au passport,” Ruto said.

Weather outlook

The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced sunny and dry weather conditions for the next seven days in several parts of the country.

In a detailed seven-day weather advisory, the dry spell is expected over a few places from February 4 to February 10, 2025, and the sunny intervals will be accompanied by moderate rainfall.

Weatherman also predicted that residents of the Coastal, North-eastern, Northwestern regions, South-eastern and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley will high day time temperatures.

“Mainly sunny and dry weather conditions are expected to prevail over most parts of the country. However, occasional rainfall may be experienced over isolated areas in the southwestern part of the country.

“Average daytime (maximum) temperatures, exceeding 30°C, are expected over the Coast, North-eastern, Northwestern regions, South-eastern Lowlands and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley,” Kenya Met announced.
