Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Gachagua speaks to Kamba nation

Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua will direct his charm offensive campaign towards the wider Kamba nation.

The politician has confirmed he will be live on three Kamba radio stations and one television station.

The engagement, which will start from 7:30 am to 9:00 am, will see him the sell his manifesto to the Kamba nation and the public.

“Join me tomorrow for a morning breakfast show as we engage with the Ukambani Radio stations on matters of National Interest,” Gachagua posted on his X page on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

The visit is a repeat of a recent trend by the former deputy president. Previously, Gachagua made similar visits to mainstream media outlets in Western and Mt Kenya in a bid to woo the masses.

Updates on Pope health

The Vatican is expected to issue rolling update on Pope Francis’ health following his hospitalization at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14, 2025.

On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, the country stated that Pope Francis was in critical but stable condition.

Also announced were some major governing decisions that suggest he is getting essential work done and improving.

The news was preceded by Tuesday, February 25, 2025, bulletin that contained a series of significant decisions Francis had taken, most importantly that he had met on Monday with Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, the Vatican “substitute” or chief of staff.

Francis regularly approves decrees from the Vatican’s saint-making office when he is at the Vatican.

Ojaamong and Manduku in the court

The mention of a case involving Sospeter Ojaamong is scheduled to be held at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi this Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

The former Governor of Busia County and five others are charged with abuse of office and economic crimes.

Allegations relate to the irregular procurement of a solid waste management feasibility project worth Ksh8 million from Madam R Enterprises by the Busia County government in the Financial yYear 2013/2014.

Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku will also be in court with a case relating to offences of abuse of office and engaging in a project without prior planning.

The case against the former managing director of Kenya Pipeline Corporation and Juma Fadhili is scheduled to continue this Wednesday.

KPL ties

The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) is set to resume with a number of midweek ties on the cards. Tusker FC hosts Shabana FC in one of the games in Machakos.

Mathare United will also be in action with a tie against KCB in Murang’a starting 3:00 pm.

Slumboys are fresh from a morale-boosting win over Police as they seek to avenge a first-leg loss to Patrick Odhiambo coached side.

Reactions of Ruto’s tour in coast

President William Ruto visited Kwale County and launched several development projects in the coastal region on February 25, 2025.

During the tour, Ruto revealed that his government has reached an agreement to collaborate with opposition leaders.

The president further emphasized the need for national unity, stressing that it was time to build a government that included all Kenyans.

“The election period is behind us. I have accepted that we should form a government that unites all Kenyans. Even those who were in the opposition—we have agreed with them to come and work with us,” Ruto stated.

Reactions on Raila’s recent pronouncement

Reactions to Raila Odinga’s recent political pronouncements are also among the major events to look out for in the day.

Raila first met with President William Ruto in Mombasa after coming back to the country. The former prime minister followed it up with a trip to Kisumu on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

During the visit, Odinga held high-level consultations in Kisumu, engaging with Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o at City Hall.

More importantly, Raila announced that he would have concluded his consultation tour by next week, upon which he will make a major political statement.

“Kisumu Dala! I held consultations with Prof. @AnyangNyongo at City Hall today. We later listened to ODM local officials and youth representatives from across Kisumu County, engaging on their views on critical affairs of the country and reaffirming our commitment to democratically empower the next generation of leaders. Asante Kisumu for the warm welcome,” his message on X read.
