The family of Edward Maingi Ndegwa, a man who was murdered at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on July 17, 2025m has broken silence.

Speaking to a local TV station, Ndegwa’s mother, Margaret Muthoni, stated that her son was admitted to the facility on July 11, 2025.

The family was optimistic that Ndegwa would be attended to and discharged after recovering.

However, on July 17, 2025, they were hit by sad news after being informed that Ndegwa had been found lifeless in the hospital bed.

The distraught mother narrated that she never imagined that the hospital would turn into a slaughterhouse.

“It is so painful because I thought he was in a safe place. Kumbe alikuwa in a slaughterhouse,” Margaret Muthoni stated.

Questions person of interest story

Muthoni questioned why Kennedy Kalombotole, who was arrested as a person of interest in her son’s murder, was re-admitted at the facility despite being linked with the murder of Gilbert Kinyua in Ward 7C in February 2025.

“Is Kenyatta a mental hospital or a medical hospital? Why should a mentally disturbed man be kept and given a side room in a ward with conscious patients?” Margaret Muthoni posed.

Calls for justice

While questioning the Kalombotole’s story, the deceased mother called for speedy investigations and justice to be served to her family.

“I am waiting for a fair justice for my son and the rest of the patients in Kenyatta Hospital,” she insisted.

DCI’s report

According to initial reports, the ward nurse had checked the patient at 11:30 am and taken his blood pressure. At 12:30 pm, a relative visited and found him stable, leaving the ward at around 1:30 pm.

However, at approximately 2:00 pm, a cleaner going round cleaning the corridor noticed blood pooling around the patient’s neck.

Upon visiting the scene, detectives noticed bloody slippers prints from the victim’s bedside to a nearby toilet and eventually to a side room, where Kalombotole was admitted.

According to DCI’s statement, in the room, investigators recovered a pair of blue slippers and a blood-stained bedsheet. Also, on the ground, directly to the 7th floor where the window to the deceased’s ward is, they recovered a knife wrapped in gloves. The recovered items were forwarded to the National Forensic Laboratory for detailed forensic analysis to augment the case.
