The families of four young  men who were killed  through mob justice on August 8, 2021 at Kitengela, Kajiado county, are crying for justice.

The four were reportedly lynched by villagers of Enkamuriaki, over suspicion of being livestock thieves.

The three sport motorcycles they were using were burnt, as well as  the documents they had at the time of the brutal murder.

Two among the four were brothers, while the other two were friends;  an employer and an employee.

Brothers Victor Mwangi Wanjiru (25) and Fredrick Mureithi Wanjiru (30) alongside their two friends; Mike George Onduso (29) and Nicholas Kyengo Musa (28) were reportedly killed at a busy seasonal river in the village at round 9pm on Sunday.

Family members said their kin have no criminal record whatsoever.

They also questioned  how their kin could have been in the village to steal livestock using sport motorcycles with no carriers.

The family members  instead claimed that the four had visited  Onduso’s sister’s home in the remote rural village to celebrate Mwangi’s birthday, before they were attacked by unknown people.

Family members say the four men were using three motorcycles and on their way back home the next day, one motorcycle developed a mechanical problem and they parked by the roadside to fix it.

At around 11pm, a herd’s boy spotted the bikes parked near their homestead.

He notified villagers who accosted the four demanding to know what they were doing in the area at night.

The angry mob descended on the four beating them to death and accused them of plotting to steal their sheep and goats.

Back at their home in Syokimau, Mwangi and Mureithi’s family has  only been left in tears.

The family says the mother of the two- Lucy Wanjiru Mureithi who works in the United Kingdom has been supporting  her sons financially.

“As a family, we are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that our sons were not in the village to commit a crime.

They had informed a neighbour friend that they were out to celebrate Mwangi’s birthday at the serene bushy area, away from the usual town bustle,”   Joseph Macharia,  Mureithi’s, uncle told journalists.

According to Macharia, this is not the first time that the two brothers and their friends were visiting the remote village with their sport motorcycles, which they have always used in their free time for leisure.

 Mwangi is a self employed sound engineer while Mureithi is a graphic designer who works in Nairobi.

“The boys mother is devastated.  She has now been left without any child.  We just hope that investigators will get to the bottom of the murder and ensure justice prevails,” said Philip Maina Murethi;  Mwangi and Murethi’s other uncle.

The family has since moved the bodies of the two to Kenyatta University Mortuary with burial preparations underway. The two will be buried at their rural home in Leshau Pondo, in Nyahururu.

Onduso who hails from Nyamira County owns a tattoo shop while  Nicholas works as his employee in Nairobi. They were both residents of Mlolongo.

According to Kyengo’s father-Patrick Musa,  his son was a disciplined person who usually  walked away from an argument.

“I am shocked beyond words. Nico my only son was so peaceful and well behaved. Why did they opt to kill such an innocent man?’ “said Musa

He said the family has embarked on preparations to lay him to rest at their rural home in Machakos County.

A postmortem conducted at City mortuary on August 12 indicates the four died as a result of injuries inflicted on their heads using sharp and blunt objects.

The families are now calling on concerned security agencies to hasten investigations and ensure justice prevails.

Isinya sub-county Police Commander Charles Chepkong’a says investigations into the matter are underway. He said so far, no arrest has been made.
