Faith Odhiambo praises Sifuna’s bold leadership and firm stand on justice
By Faith Lagat, February 18, 2026Outgoing Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has commended Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for his advocacy on justice and human rights, describing his stance as admirable amid the country’s evolving political environment.
Speaking during an interview with a local television station on Monday, February 17, 2026, Odhiambo said she was closely following developments in governance and leadership in the country.
She noted that she remains keenly interested in how the country is being run, signalling her continued engagement with national governance issues even as her tenure at the Law Society of Kenya draws to a close.
She also indicated that while there had been suggestions she publicly align herself with certain political figures, her position was one of admiration rather than affiliation, adding that she appreciates the work and firm stance taken by personalities such as Sifuna on national matters.
“I’d say that I’m very interested in how things are running in this country,” she said. When pressed on political alignments, she added, “Someone said I should say another phrase there, that I’m with somebody. But I admire the work that persons, personalities like Edwin Sifuna have done and just his strong stand in this nation, in this country.”
Odhiambo, whose two-year tenure at LSK ends this month, declined to confirm whether she intends to join active politics after leaving office. “Whether I will join politics or not is something that we’ll wait and see,” she stated.
Her remarks come at a time when Sifuna has emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of the current administration, particularly on governance, accountability and civil liberties.
Kitengela rally incident
This comes days after Sifuna’s political rally in Kitengela on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and allied opposition leaders faced major disruptions during a planned “Linda Mwananchi” tour rally.

Thousands of mostly young supporters had turned up in Kajiado County to listen to Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and other members of the ODM rebel faction opposed to ongoing talks with the ruling United Democratic Alliance.
However, police lobbed teargas canisters into the crowd, fired shots in the air, and earlier damaged the dais and sound equipment, forcing attendees to scatter and bringing the event to an abrupt end.In a statement posted on X immediately after the chaos, Sifuna thanked Kitengela residents for their resilience despite what he termed sustained harassment and intimidation.
“Thank You Kitengela. Despite all the harassment, intimidation and violence from this morning, you showed up. They first destroyed our dais and sound equipment in the morning, and the state goons have now teargassed a peaceful assembly and brought it to an abrupt end. We shall not relent,” he wrote.
He assured supporters that the movement would continue undeterred, with upcoming rallies and public consultations proceeding with renewed determination.
This comes amid deepening divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement over potential pre-2027 election cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration.
Sifuna, recently removed as ODM Secretary General but insisting he remains in the position, has used the Linda Mwananchi platform to criticise attempts to silence dissent while mobilising citizens on governance and accountability issues. He has maintained that such interruptions will not derail their broader efforts to engage citizens across the country.
