Expunge non-beneficial BBI clauses but retain what improves livelihood – Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina urges Supreme Court
A hopeful United Democratic Alliance (UDA) affiliated governor now wants Supreme Court of Kenya to quash all the clauses seeking to increase positions in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Thika Town Member of Parliament Patrick Wainaina who is seeking to unseat Kiambu incumbent governor James Nyoro says while BBI is generally good, the common citizenry is disinterested in the creation of job opportunities for a few individuals.
Speaking in his constituency yesterday, Wainaina urged the apex court to expunge clauses that are non-beneficial to Kenyans but retain ones that seek to improve the livelihood of Kenyans.
“I expect a fair and a just ruling that will only leave the clauses that seek to improve the welfare of Kenyans. Any other clause especially those that seek to create positions should be expunged,” Wainaina said.
He stated that BBI has many clauses that favour the vote-rich Mt Kenya region including the one that proposes the equitable allocation of resources based on regional population.
“The national cake should be shared equally on the basis of population of regions and Mt Kenya stands to benefit from such. The proposed law should not be thrown out wholly,” he added.
The Supreme Court of Kenya is set to make the ruling that is expected to shape the political landscape of the country going forward.
