The 14-member team, led by former Nanyuki Boys High School principal Oliver Minishi is expected to help run the institution, which is recovering from a health crisis that saw hundreds of students hospitalised, with three plus a teacher succumbing.
The others include former Moi Girls-Eldoret principal of Rose Wanaswa, a long-serving high school teacher who is now a lecturer at Bomet University, Polycarp Ishenyi and a retired County Director of Education Dosiana Ahindukha.
Also appointed are a long-serving Kenya National Union of Teachers Kakamega Branch Executive Secretary Fred Anguba and educationists Patrick Nzaywa and Genevieve Imbayi, besides Cheryl Masai, Jason Mulama, Bibiana Mululu, Kennedy Muhanji, Beatrice Memo, Gabriel Fwaya and Fr Vincent Mukokho.
Mukumu Girls principal Sr Jane Amukohe yesterday said she was confident that the new board would help her steer the institution into the right direction owing to their experience in academic matters.
“We are now focused on ensuring that the lives of our girls, teachers and the support staff are safe. I urge parents to ignore toxic rumours being peddled on social media,” she added.
She exuded confidence that their KCSE examination candidates would post good results.
Minishi pointed out that the new board would seek long-lasting solutions to the crisis that led to the closure of the institution last term.
