Executive, Judiciary tiff not good – scholar

The sustained row between the Judiciary and the executive will make Kenyans lose confidence in the independent institutions, a Kenyan born US-based scholar has warned.

Kiiru Chomba castigated leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza-led government for disparaging members of the judiciary that are said to be corrupt in all their public forums.

The scholar instead advised the disgruntled leaders to use the available constitutional means if they expect the three arms of the government to work in harmony. He reiterated the need for the three arms of the government to work in peace and harmony if they expect to attract confidence and trust from local and foreign investors

Speaking to the media in Eldoret, Chomha expressed his dismay over the government’s sustained onslaught against the Judiciary terming its action as dangerous to the country’s democracy.  The manner in which the government is handling the issue pertaining to a section of corrupt individuals in the Judiciary is the most regrettable and should not be allowed to continue further,” said Chomba.

“I am pleading with President William Ruto to lead by example by avoiding public spats with members of the judiciary and instead use the available constitutional channels to iron out their differences,” added Chomba.

The scholar was reacting to numerous attacks on the Judiciary by the Head of State while on a country-wide launch of development projects.
