EU grants Garissa Sh500m for youth empowerment

The European Union (EU) has granted Garissa county Sh500 million for a programme that will offer residents living around refugee camps vocational skills.
EU Ambassador to Kenya Simon Mordue said the support is aimed at improving the livelihood of the residents who have existed alongside each other peacefully with the refugees.
“As EU and other development partners, we are working with Garissa in developing programme support designed on capacity building, policy advance and create an environment safe for the host and refugees,” said Mordue, adding that 1200 youth would benefit from the initiative.
Host community
He was speaking yesterday after meeting Garissa Governor Ali Korane, Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) chair and Mandera Governor Ali Roba and Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, among others leaders.
“The host community will benefit directly through the programme at a tune of Sh565 million through skills development,” he said.
Korane said the programme will run in three phases and will end in 2030 with the main focus being Daadab and Fafi constituencies.
