End insecurity in Kisumu, Nyong’o says

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has once again called for swift action to end insecurity in parts of the county.

Nyong’o said he was concerned that gangs had continued to wreak havoc in parts of the county despite his earlier appeal to security agencies to address the problem.

He condemned the latest incident in which a security guard was killed and another one seriously injured by an armed gang at National Housing Corporation estate in Obunga on Monday night.

Kisumu Central Sub-county Police Commander Anthony Maina said the deceased died of injuries sustained during the attack.

Maina said the attackers jumped over a perimeter wall, broke into three vehicles and stole radio heads at the parking in the estate. He said investigations were ongoing.

Nyong’o promised to hold a meeting with the county security team, led by the County Commissioner to discuss the state of security in the county.

“I am appealing to the Ministry of Interior and the coordination of National Government to move with speed and save the situation because I know they have the capacity to do it,” the Governor said.
