Embrace traditional foods for longer life span – medic

By , October 18, 2022

Kenyans have been advised to eat traditional foods to lead healthy lives and have lengthened lifespan.

Joan Mwariri, a medical doctor, blamed fast foods for the serious health hazards facing both children and the elderly.

Mwariri says consumption of unhealthy food such as sugar-sweetened beverages and highly processed food has sent people to graves early and urged Kenyans to modify their eating habits.

Speaking during a medical camp organized by Mama Ngina University in collaboration with various hospitals in the country, Mwariri pleaded to Kenyans to go back to traditional foods including yams, cassava, arrowroots, amaranth, spinach, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, traditional kales, cowpeas among others.

The Karen hospital doctor regretted that many people, as young as 35 years have been diagnosed with chronic conditions, a situation that is largely blamed on uptake of food with high elements of chemicals.
