Ekuru Aukot criticizes Ruto’s plans to send Kenyans abroad for jobs

Third Way Alliance Party Leader Ekuru Aukot has criticized President William Ruto’s initiative to send Kenyans abroad for employment opportunities.

Ruto had defended his overseas trips, stating that he was working towards securing jobs for Kenyans and aiming to send at least 5,000 individuals abroad weekly.

Aukot expressed disapproval of the plan, characterizing it as a low point for the country.

He argued that sending Kenyans abroad for jobs like house help and garbage collectors would trap them in low-income positions.

“Fellow Kenyans, let’s reflect on the “employment policy” of our president William Ruto
of sending Kenyans abroad. It is stooping so low. How is Kenya going to develop by sending the country’s youth abroad to work as housegirls/boys and garbage collectors? That’s placing them in a low-income trap where they will never gain any useful skills, then come back with a burnout before they turn 40. This is creating a nation of hustlers indeed,” Aukot stated.

Aukot also questioned the wisdom of sending a such portion of the population abroad to undertake menial jobs for inadequate pay.

“Still on the “employment policy” of President William Ruto, he is targeting to send 260,000 Kenyans a year, or a quarter of the 1 million joining the labour force every year. As a long-term policy, that means sending a quarter of a generation to do underpaid minial jobs that people in the host countries consider below their dignity. Quite a way to build a proud and prosperous nation!” he added.
