The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) yesterday laid bare how former Migori Governor Okoth Obado who is charged alongside his children amassed a multi-billion shilling estate during his first term in office.

Investigating officer Robert Ronoh gave a detailed testimony detailing how the multi-billion shilling properties were recovered inside the master bedroom of Obado’s son Dan Achola’s at their rural home in Migori county.

The officer took the court through over fifteen registered properties in the names of Obado, his close relatives and personal aide Jared Kwaga.

Ronoh presented the whole list of assets including a Sh34.5 million house in Loresho, Nairobi and three houses near State House, Nairobi.

Other properties include Obado’s Karen residence in Nairobi, three-bedroom houses in Mbagathi, one flat apartment in Umoja, and one palatial home in Athi River in Machakos county.

Assorted documents

The officer told the trial magistrate Victor Wakumile that during the raids at Obado’s residences, they recovered assorted documents of ownership of the Loresho house which has since been seized by the government through Assets Recovery Agency.

The court heard the EACC detectives recovered an original letter of purchase of the Loresho property in Obado’s master bedroom.
According to the letter dated August 12, 2014, Obado’s Personal Assistant was listed as the purchaser of the Loresho property at Sh34,525,000 from the Kenya Power Pension Fund Scheme.
