EACC recover grabbed Nyahururu land worth Sh110 million

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission has recovered 2.5 acres of land worth Sh110 million in Nyahururu town from twelve grabbers.
EACC director of Corporate Affairs and Public Communications, Eric Ngumbi said those who had grabbed the land opted to surrender the land ownership documents through alternative dispute resolution.
“They realized we had a tight case against them in the case we had filed at the Nyahururu high court and they had no option but to surrender the title deeds they had acquired fraudulently,” he said.
The land is part of the Nyahururu main bus park and had been donated to the then Nyahururu municipal council by the Catholic Church for expansion of the bus terminus.
Ngumbi said the process of issuing new ownership documents to the Laikipia county government for the piece of land is at an advanced stage.
Ngumbi thanked the second hand clothes traders who have been operating in the land for alerting EACC of the grabbing after some people who included families of prominent people in Nyandarua and Laikipia counties started construction of a business mall on the land two years ago.
The chairman of the Mutumba Business Association in the town Peter Maina Mwangi narrated how he underwent ordeals including arrest and arraignment in court on destruction charges for opposing the grabbing of the land.
Ngumbi said EACC is pursuing 12 other cases of stealing of public property, mostly government houses in Nyahururu town.
“Another case being investigated is the grabbing of Agricultural Machinery Services land in this town by three people. The matter is in court and we hope it will be concluded soon so that the facility that was meant to offer machinery services to farmers at subsidized costs can revert back to the government,” Ngumbi said.
The EACC officer warned civil servants who have been colluding with thieves of public property they will soon face the law.
The Anti Corruption body is seeking recovery of 50 acres worth Sh500 million in Njabini, Nyandarua County whose grab is associated with a former Cabinet Minister of the previous regime.
