Two men will serve five years imprisonment after they were found guilty of dealing in wildlife trophy.

Loitoktok Law Court Resident Magistrate Samuel Ndungu yesterday convicted Bilas Shayo a resident of Meto in Tanzania and Joseph Mutisya from Kalungu in Kibwezi, Makueni county.

 Duo was charged that on January 28, 2022, they were found with 21 kilogrammes of ivory with a street value of Sh 2.1 million at Munyura area in Rombo Division, Loitoktok sub-county.  Daudi Muhammed, Kenya Wildlife Service officer attached to Loitoktok told the court how he received an intelligence report that there were two men who were looking for a buyer of ivory.  Muhammed said he mobilised four officers and proceeded to Rombo where they met the accused and they pretended to be prospective buyers.

 Once in the vehicle the accused were arrested and upon inspection of their luggage, Muhammed and his team discovered two ivory tusks.

Duo has 14 days to appeal against the sentence.
