Drama as two Wajir Governors attend Madaraka Day celebrations in Kisumu

The political struggle in Wajir County intensified yesterday after impeached Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud and newly sworn-in boss Ahmed Muktar both attended the 58th Madaraka Day celebrations in Kisumu city.

Last week, Governor Muktar said he was legally in charge following the impeachment of his former boss –Mohamud – who separately claimed
to be running the government, citing a High Court order stopping the swearing-in of his deputy.

But the order was reportedly issued after Muktar had already been sworn in.

In a message to his former boss, Muktar made it clear that there was no vacuum in Wajir and he, together with all the other local leaders, would not let tension, chaos and divisions disrupt development.

“My focus is not on politics; expectations are high from the Wajir people who want me to deliver services to them. We appeal to him (former governor Ali Mohamud) to come on
board as a citizen of the county and
help us serve the people,” Muktar
said.

The Council of Governors chair￾man Martin Wambora expressed dis￾satisfaction with how Mohamud was impeached.
