Gachagua threatens to sack 50% of administrators over illicit brews menace
By Mary Ouko, April 30, 2023
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning to county administrators caught enabling illicit brewers and drug peddlers in their regions.
While addressing a crowd in Ngong, Kajiado County on Saturday, April 29, 2023, the DP affirmed that the administrators must do what it takes to avert the issue of drugs and alcohol in their respective regions.
While decrying the impact of the menace that alcohol has created in different regions, the DP instructed the administrators to ensure that they report clearance of the drugs and illicit brews by May 14 this year.
“Drugs and chiefs cannot exist in the same location. By May 14, 2023, you must report to my office that you have cleared drugs and illegal alcohol.
“The president and I cannot sit back and watch as a whole generation is wiped out. Within 14 days, we will take action,” he stated.
Gachagua on gov’t’s stand
Gachagua asserted that the Kenya Kwanza administration will enforce strict measures such as sacking security officers who fail to deal with the issue of drugs in their respective areas.
“We are willing to sack 50% of you if you don’t deal with this. We will not do any transfers.
“If an OCS or commissioner cannot deal with the issue of drugs we will sack you,” he stated.
