Deputy President William Ruto reminded a section of Nyanza residents of the role he played when Raila Odinga vied for presidency in 2007.

Addressing locals of Migori county on Saturday, September 25, Ruto said he was Raila’s staunch supporter when the former Prime Minister vied for the countries top seat.

“In 2007, I am the one who campaigned for Raila until he became Prime Minister, true or false?” Ruto paused.

The DP further said that he also played a critical role in ensuring President Uhuru Kenyatta was elected in 2013 and 2017.

“I also campaigned for Uhuru until he became the President and now they don’t want me to get the seat,” Ruto said.

Ruto also blamed the Jubilee administration for the current unemployment rate in the country arguing that unfavourable government policies are to be blamed for the unemployment rate in the country.

“It is the role of the government to come up with policies that will ensure the youth are employed or they can run a business of their own. Those who do not have a business or are unemployed are in this state because the government has failed,” Ruto said.

In his argument, the DP said taking care of Kenyans at the bottom of the pecking order should be the priority of the government instead of the clamour for constitutional change.

“Every now and then especially when we are approaching general elections people come with the idea of changing the constitution so that we have different seats for leaders

“Before we change the constitution, let us work on reviving the economy first so that those who are unemployed can get jobs and the general welfare of Kenyans,” Ruto said
