Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has warned political leaders engaged in incitement against the government saying that their actions are intolerable and counterproductive to national unity and development.

Addressing the faithful at the Full Gospel Church in Kamumu, Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County,  Prof.  Kindiki said the government would no longer tolerate individuals moving around the country inciting Kenyans against President William Ruto’s government.

“The role of a leader is to listen to the people’s needs and devise solutions,” Kindiki asserted. “Inciting the populace against their leaders is both disrespectful and uncouth.”

He said such behaviour won’t be tolerated anymore.

The second-in-command urged locals to turn a deaf eye to such leaders who were setting their emotions high instead of helping them solve their problems.

The admonition comes amid rising political tensions in Embu County. Notably, during a recent burial in Kanyuambora, mourners rejected President  Ruto’s condolence message delivered by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi. Such incidents have sparked concerns about a growing culture of political intolerance in the region.

Kindiki condemned the practice of paying individuals to heckle leaders, labelling it as a manifestation of populist politics that undermines leadership.

He called for mutual respect among leaders and urged them to support one another rather than resort to public name-calling.

“As a leader, don’t tell us you’re listening to the ground and doing nothing about it,” he stated. “Tell us you have listened and have a solution to what the ground is saying.”

“There is no way a country can turn to a county of lawlessness, indiscipline, violence, and making noise we cannot allow that,” Kindiki stated.

DP Kindiki reaffirmed the government’s commitment to service delivery and urged leaders to focus on their mandates. He reminded them that they have the liberty to traverse all areas without intimidation and called on locals to embrace visiting leaders.

“As leaders, we must remain focused on our mandate,” Kindiki declared. “We cannot afford to be distracted by those who seek to sow discord among us.”

Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi echoed Kindiki’s sentiments, criticizing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his recent remarks at a burial in Mbeere.
