Double tragedy for Kimani Ichung’wah as he buries uncle days after father’s death

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has laid to rest his uncle, Ikinu Ngugi, in Nakuru County just days after the death of his father.

On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, various leaders from the county joined him at Mangu PCEA Church in Rongai, Nakuru, to pay their last respects.

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, who was among the leaders who accompanied Ichungwah at the burial, while eulogising Mzee Ikinu, described him as a devoted family man, an astute businessman, and a God-fearing individual who served the PCEA Church faithfully.

She highlighted his peace-loving nature and his ability to live harmoniously within the diverse communities of both Kericho, where he was born, and Nakuru, where he later settled. She further urged Nakuru residents to emulate his values and promote peaceful coexistence in the cosmopolitan county.

“As we bid him farewell, I extend my deepest condolences to Hon. Ichung’wa and his family, who are enduring the pain of double loss as they prepare to also lay to rest Hon. Ichung’wa’s father, brother to the late Mzee Ikinu, in the coming days. Losing two loved ones so close together is a heavy burden, and I pray that God grants them strength, comfort, and grace during this difficult period,” she stated.

Acknowledging the double tragedy that has struck the Majority Leader, the governor extended condolences to Ichung’wah and his family, noting the heavy burden of losing two close relatives within such a short period. She expressed prayers for strength, comfort, and grace for the family as they prepare to lay his father, the brother of the late Mzee Ikinu, to rest in the coming days.

This comes only days after the passing of Ichung’wah’s father, Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi, with several leaders, including the President, sending condolence messages to the family

The news was announced by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in a statement shared via his official social media accounts.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the Kikuyu MP and Leader of Majority, Hon. @KIMANIICHUNGWAH, following the passing of their patriarch, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi,” Wetang’ula stated.

According to Wetang’ula, Mzee Ngugi passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Kikuyu home, having lived a remarkable 105 years.
