Divorce case: Kitany skips court to mourn Linturi dad

The divorce case pitting Meru Senator Mithika Linturi against his estranged wife Marianne Kitany failed to proceed yesterday after the latter told the court she wants to mourn the death of her “father-in-law”.
Through lawyer Danstan Omari, Kitany said she was not ready to proceed following the death of Linturi’s father on Monday night.
Chief Magistrate Peter Gesora heard that Kitany, who was not in court, was in the process of going to her home in Meru to be part of the burial arrangements.
However, the senator, who was in court said, through his lawyers he was ready to proceed.
“It is unfortunate that she is using death as a platform in this case; she cannot cry more than the respondent,” said lawyer Muthomi Thiankolu.
Linturi said there are many aspects of his life that have been held in abeyance pending the outcome of the case, in which several properties have been frozen.
His other lawyer George Wajackoyah said the death of Linturi’s father is attributed to shock as he could not believe a woman built a house for his son, a member of the Njuri Ncheke, which is against Meru customary law.
Kitany in her testimony has claimed she spent Sh26 million from her purse to renovate Linturi’s Meru home.
All parties agreed to proceed with hearing today.
