Diaspora PS pushes for more jobs for Kenyans in Qatar

Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu has called for increased employment opportunities for Kenyan workers in Qatar.

In an official statement posted by Kenya’s State Department of Diaspora Affairs on Thursday, May 1, 2025, it was disclosed that during her official visit to Qatar, she met with Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al Thani, the undersecretary at Qatar’s Ministry of Labour, to discuss opportunities for the absorption of Kenya’s human capital and to enhance the welfare of Kenyan workers in Qatar.

“Diaspora Affairs PS, @roselinenjogu, paid a courtesy call on Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al Thani, Undersecretary at Qatar’s Ministry of Labour, to deliberate on opportunities for absorption of Kenya’s human capital, management of the processes, and enhancement of the welfare of Kenyans working in Qatar,” the statement reads in part.

Njogu expressed her gratitude to the Qatari government for facilitating employment opportunities for Kenyan professionals and reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Qatar.

She emphasised the importance of adhering to established laws and processes to ensure the fair treatment and well-being of Kenyan workers.

“PS Njogu, in turn, expressed gratitude to the Qatari government for facilitating the employment of Kenyan professionals and reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to deeper cooperation, with an emphasis on ensuring strict adherence to set laws and processes,” the statement reads in part.

In response, Al Thani acknowledged the strong relationship between Qatar and Kenya, commending the dedication and positive reputation of Kenyan workers across various sectors in Qatar.

Accompanying the PS to the meeting was Judith Ntong’ondu, Head of Chancery at the Kenya Mission in Qatar.

“The PS, who is in the State of Qatar on an official visit, was accompanied to the meeting visit by Judith K. Ntong’ondu, Head of Chancery at the Kenya Mission in Qatar,” the statement reads in part.

This visit highlights Kenya’s ongoing efforts to expand employment opportunities for its citizens abroad while safeguarding their rights and welfare.
