Detectives storm Nakuru estate and corner 12 men linked to gang activities
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have nabbed twelve men linked to crime, wreaking havoc in Nakuru East Sub-County.
In a post on the DCI’s official X account on Saturday, April 25, 2026, the officers nabbed the persons of interest after swooping into multiple hideouts.
“A police dragnet has descended on criminal gangs wreaking havoc in Nakuru East Sub-County, with officers swooping in on multiple hideouts and rounding up key suspects,” DCI stated.
Acting on intelligence, the officers stormed a cramped one-room house in Kaloleni Estate, arresting 8 persons of interest red-handed. In a swift follow-up, four more suspects were smoked out of another nearby den within the same estate.
“Officers widened the net to Freehold Estate, where four additional suspects were cornered and arrested. In a further sweep, eight more suspects were rounded up at the busy Railway Stage area, tightening the noose on a network believed to have been terrorising residents across Nakuru East and its surroundings,” DCI noted.
According to the DCI, the twelve are currently in custody, undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment. Through intelligence-led operations, the National Police Service (NPS) is committed to dismantling criminal gangs and protecting public safety nationwide.

Weakening criminal gang
The Nakuru arrest comes days after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen accused the judiciary and a section of political leaders of actively undermining the government’s efforts to eliminate criminal gangs.
Appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Security on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Murkomen stated that the presence of opposition leaders in court proceedings affects how judges handle cases involving suspects, especially those linked to organised violence and gang activity.
Murkomen pointed out a disturbing trend where politicians rely on goons and gangs to secure their positions, claiming that some leaders’ only strategy for maintaining power is the elimination or harassment of their opponents.
How leaders use goons
He stated that these leaders use gangs to terrorise voters and prevent rivals from addressing meetings.
“Some leaders, who claim to be in leadership, are actually eliminating their opponents. Making it impossible for any opponent to come in, and they are proudly going around saying this is the deterrent measures I put in place, nobody can address a meeting in my constituency if he’s going to mention my name,” Murkomen said.
