Detectives nab 13 individuals linked to drug trafficking in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nyanza

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended at least thirteen people linked to drug trafficking in a multi-agency security operation.

In a post on the official DCI X account on Friday, March 6, 2026, the detective confirmed that officers acting on information conducted operations targeting individuals involved in drug trafficking and uncustomed or prohibited goods in the Likoni area within Mombasa.

“Multi-agency security teams arrest suspects in coordinated anti-drug operations across Mombasa, Nairobi and Nyanza regions. A multi-agency security team comprising DCI ANU Mombasa, Kenya Police, NACADA and KRA, acting on information, conducted operations targeting individuals involved in drug trafficking and uncustomed or prohibited goods in the Likoni area within Mombasa,” DCI said.

At a rental house in Corner Mpya Estate in Likoni, the multi-agency team arrested three persons of intrests who were found distilling and packaging several bottles of a substance they had labelled as SMART Vodka.

At the time of the arrest, other items, including KRA stickers and a distilling apparatus, were also recovered.

In another operation, three persons of interest were also arrested while in possession of uncustomed or prohibited goods. Assorted alcoholic drinks were also recovered, and an inventory was taken.

In a similar operation in the Nyanza region, officers from DCI ANU Nyanza Region, in collaboration with officers from DCI Nyanza Regional Headquarters and DCI Headquarters ANU conducted an intelligence-led operation following credible intelligence that a bus that had a passenger trafficking narcotic drugs.

The bus was flagged down at Awasi along the Kisumu–Kericho Highway where a search was conducted and one black backpack containing three bales of green plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs and another carrier bag containing two bales of dry plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs were recovered.

In Nairobi County, a third team from ANU DCI Headquarters and TOCU, acting on information regarding drug traffickers at the Mwiki area in Kasarani, raided a rented house.

Police then recovered a package containing a creamish substance suspected to be narcotic drugs, assorted packaging materials, 43 non-serviceable mobile phones, four non-serviceable iPad tablets, Kshs 13,800 in cash and one computer were recovered.

The search was extended to the dumpsite behind the building where the officers recovered one mobile phone make Samsung Galaxy A36, belonging to the person of intrests two packages of transparent polythene papers containing sachets with a creamish powdery substance suspected to be narcotic drugs and assorted packaging materials.

“The suspect was arrested together with two other suspected associates, namely Josephat Mwangi Njenga and Samwel Nyota Wambui. The three suspects were later escorted to Muthaiga Police Station, where they were booked and placed in the cells while the exhibits were escorted to DCI Headquarters Exhibit Store for safe custody and further processing pending arraignment of the trio,” DCI added.
