Detectives have dismantled two linked narcotic drug syndicates in the Karanja area, Kibra Sub-County, following a coordinated operation involving multiple specialised units.

Officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), backed by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) and the Operations Action Team (OAT), carried out the raids after receiving credible intelligence on drug trafficking activities in the area.

In the first operation, the team targeted a residential house linked to the illegal trade. After surveillance, they identified the premises as belonging to a 51-year-old man.

During a search, detectives recovered 14 packages of dry plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The drugs were packed in non-woven and ziplock bags, suggesting they were ready for distribution.

Officers also seized empty packaging materials, two digital weighing scales, and Ksh 31,700 in cash believed to be proceeds from the trade. Other items recovered included an international vaccination certificate bearing the suspect’s name and a Samsung Galaxy A05 mobile phone with a Safaricom SIM card.

“The substances were neatly packaged, pointing to clear intent to supply,” an officer involved in the operation said.

Police arrested the person of interest at the scene. They processed the site and secured all exhibits at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters as investigations continue.

Second raid

In a second raid within the same area, detectives acted on further intelligence and moved to another residence. The house, occupied by woman, was accessed without alerting occupants.

A search led to the recovery of seven packages of suspected narcotic drugs, more quantities stored in a basin, and two additional packages containing rolled substances.

Officers also found four weighing scales, scissors, a rolling flag, a metallic smoking pipe, and packaging materials linked to drug preparation and sale.

Investigators further recovered documents, including a cash bail receipt and a charge sheet bearing the suspect’s name, alongside witness statements.

“This points to a pattern of involvement in drug-related activities,” another officer said.

Detectives arrested the lady and took her to Muthaiga Police Station, where she remains in custody pending further action. All seized items were taken to the DCI headquarters for safe storage and forensic analysis.
