Details of Ruto’s trip to Spain and UK
President William Ruto is expected to depart for official visits to Spain and the United Kingdom on Sunday, June 29, 2025, where he is expected to sign key economic and strategic agreements aimed at boosting Kenya’s global competitiveness and attracting significant foreign investments.
In London, Ruto is scheduled to meet UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to finalise the renewed Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030. The agreement focuses on four core areas: trade, climate, technology, and security. It targets doubling trade volumes by 2030, advancing digital skills among Kenyans, and enhancing cooperation on regional security and climate-related challenges.

“President William Ruto departs today for official visits to Spain and the United Kingdom, where he will sign a renewed Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership set to unlock major investments, create jobs, and boost Kenya’s global competitiveness in trade, climate, technology, and security.” A statement by the statehouse spokesman.
One of the major projects under the deal is the Nairobi Railway City, a transit-oriented development in the heart of Nairobi. The UK has committed up to £1.5 billion in new investments to support this and other priority sectors aimed at driving economic growth over the next five years.
Kenya and the UK will also pursue joint initiatives in green finance and innovation. These efforts include support for start-ups, digital SMEs, and the expansion of digital job opportunities through investments in AI and emerging technologies.
Uk stop
During his UK stop, Ruto will also witness the announcement by Lloyd’s of London to establish a regional underwriting hub in Nairobi under the Nairobi International Financial Centre (NIFC), positioning the city as a financial hub for Sub-Saharan Africa. He will also address the Africa Debate hosted by Invest Africa, where he will present Kenya’s investment agenda.
Spain
Before heading to the UK, Ruto will first stop in Seville, Spain, to attend the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development. The summit brings together global leaders to shape new approaches to development finance amid economic and geopolitical turbulence.
In Spain, Ruto will co-chair a high-level session and engage in bilateral talks with leaders, including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and King Felipe VI. Discussions will focus on deepening cooperation in areas such as clean energy, climate resilience, and youth empowerment.
“He will deliver the keynote address at the Africa Debate, hosted by Invest Africa, a platform to promote Kenya’s economic transformation agenda and attract strategic investment. Prior to his engagements in the United Kingdom, President Ruto will begin his official visit in Seville, Spain, where he will participate in the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, a high-level global forum convening world leaders to define new principles for development financing” the statement read.
