Details of Joseph Boinett-led security trip to Haiti
By Luke Oluoch, August 15, 2025The Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) to Haiti has revealed the details of a high-level trip undertaken by Kenyan security organs to the war-torn capital, Port-au-Prince, that kicked off on Monday, August 11, 2025, and lasted until Thursday, August 14, 2025.
The mission stated that Kenya’s Deputy National Security Advisor, Joseph Boinet Kipchirchir, led a trip with six other senior government officials to engage with key stakeholders supporting MSSM.
During the visit, the delegation met with Carlos G. Ruiz Massieu, the newly appointed Head of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Haiti.
The Kenyan delegation reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the MSS Mission. It also held discussions with Laurent Saint-Cyr, Coordinator of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT).
Gratitude to the GOK
Saint-Cyr praised the mission’s achievements and Haiti’s determination to work collaboratively with its partners.
He particularly expressed gratitude to the government of Kenya for deploying more than 750 officers, noting that the willingness to serve humanity should always be recognised.
In the diplomatic arena, the Kenyan delegation met separately with Henry T. Wooster, Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Port-au-Prince, and André François Giroux, Canada’s Ambassador to Haiti.
The two envoys reiterated their strong support for the MSS Mission, emphasising that challenges are being addressed with encouraging progress.
Meeting with Otunge
The team also paid a courtesy call to the MSS Force Commander, Godfrey Otunge, touring both the Link State Advertisement (LSA1 and 2).

Later, they met with MSS leadership and the Kenyan contingent, where Mr. Boinet conveyed greetings from President William Ruto.

He commended their resilience, professionalism, and dedication, expressing Kenya’s pride in their service.
In a show of morale, Boinett urged them to maintain close cooperation and coordination with the Haitian National Police (HNP), highlighting that such synergy would deliver stronger results.
He further assured them of the Kenyan government’s continued commitment to the mission, with additional resources planned to help overcome operational challenges. The visit fostered renewed hope and optimism for the mission’s success, underlining a shared determination to defeat gang violence and restore stability so that Haiti can reclaim its path toward peace and prosperity.
