According to the former Mathira Member of Parliament, the elders also highlighted Mt Kenya’s options to establish the region’s political direction.

Social integration and unity of the region also prominently featured in the meeting between Gachaguia and Kiama Kia Ma amid political heat between Mt Kenya East and West.

“Yesterday, I had an opportunity to continue consulting and listening when I met a delegation from ‘Kîama Kîa Ma’.

“These Senior Elders, mainly County Chairs and County Patrons drawn from various counties shared with me their ideas of what they think are the priorities for the year 2025, and the options they see facing our community, especially as regards political direction and social integration,” Gachagua’s statement read in part.

“These sessions are really useful to us as we set in place our plans for this year,” it added.

Political direction

In December 2024, Gachagua revealed plans to give Mt Kenya political direction following his ouster from office through impeachment.

Speaking at a church service, Gachagua said he has had consultations with different leaders on the issue and he will let Kenyans know in 2025.

“Naendelea kuongea na watu. Viongozi wetu wa kanisa, wafanya biashara wetu, professionals wetu na viongozi ambao wanapenda watu wetu tunaongea. January hii nitamueleza vile tumesikizana (I am talking with our religious leaders, our businessmen, our professionals and leaders who love us. Come January I will reveal to you what we have been talking about), Gachagua announced.

In subsequent events, Gachagua hinted at forming coalitions ahead of the 2027 polls.

His sentiments were confirmed by Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka who disclosed plans to work with the former DP. He however rallied on other leaders to join Azimio which is eyeing rebranding.

“We will talk to everyone going forward to build a strong coalition. What I can say is that there will come a time when we will ask everyone to validate their membership in Azimio and expand,” he said.
