Deputy principal drowns with his two sons in swollen River Sagana

Rescuers Murang’a have launched a search for a man and his two sons who are feared to have drowned in River Sagana on Tuesday morning.
The locals said that the man who is feared to have drown is a deputy principal of a school in Murang’a County.
They said he was trying to cross the swollen river with his two sons but their boat capsized midstream.
The three have not yet been located.
According to Bilha Wanjiku, the Murang’a County disaster management officer, the incident is said to have occurred at around 9.00 am on Tuesday but the county was only informed three hours later.
“We have dispatched a team to the scene and they are searching for the three but as for now they have been traced,” she said.
Wanjiku said the river is still swollen and dangerous for people to cross even on the canoes that the locals prefer.
They urged the Murang’a County Government to consider building a bridge.
“This river has become a death trap which has claimed a number of lives yet nothing is done about it,” said one of the residents.
Recently, a pregnant woman drowned in the same river and her body was never found.
