DCI seizes sacks of cannabis in Limuru sting
A drug trafficking operation was disrupted in Limuru after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) intercepted a vehicle linked to transporting narcotics.
In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said its team of officers carried out the coordinated operation and arrested a person of interest linked to the consignment that the police say is cannabis sativa.
“A joint team of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ (DCI) Transnational Organised Crime Unit and Anti-Narcotics Unit, working with officers from Mutarakwa Police Post, has arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered a substantial quantity of believed to be cannabis sativa,” the statement reads.

The detectives explained that the operation was based on intelligence reports and involved a planned interception along a busy road often used by motorists travelling between Nairobi and the Rift Valley region.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the officers conducted a sting operation along the Mai Mahiu–Nairobi Road at Mutarakwa Trading Centre in Limuru Sub-County. They intercepted a Toyota Crown vehicle, believed to be transporting narcotics,” part of the statement by DCI in X reads.
Detectives said the person of interest was arrested at the scene and four-and-a-half sacks containing what police believe is sativa, while also noting that another individual managed to escape during the operation.
“The driver was arrested on the spot. A quick search of the vehicle revealed four-and-a-half sacks containing green plant material believed to be cannabis sativa, whose estimated street value is yet to be determined. A second occupant in the vehicle fled the scene; efforts to apprehend him are ongoing,” the statement reads.

Authorities further stated that the exhibits, as well as the person of interest nabbed, are currently at DCI headquarters for further investigation as legal processes begin.
“The suspect and recovered exhibits have been transported to DCI Headquarters for further processing and documentation. He is expected to be arraigned in court,” the statement reads.
The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug trafficking networks, emphasising that such drug trafficking syndicates must be dismantled.
“The DCI reaffirms its commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks and drug trafficking syndicates to ensure a safer Kenya for all,” the statement concluded.
