DCI officers arrest four suspects linked to theft of 50 bikes, 35 engines

Police detectives have arrested four prime suspects who allegedly own a garage in Eldoret where more than 50 stolen motorbikes were recovered.
Confirming the incident, Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said, acting from a tip-off from one of the victims, the officers also recovered 35 engines suspected to have been dismantled from some of the stolen motorbikes.
Tracking system
Mwanthi revealed that after stealing from their victims, the suspects then removed the tracking system to avoid being traced before dismantling the body parts of some of the motorbikes for spare parts.
“We discovered through our investigations that the suspects have been selling some of the stolen motorbikes to unsuspecting buyers in the North Rift region where they are in high demand,” said Mwanthi.
Dismantled engines
According to the police Commander, the suspected cartels have been carrying out their operations between Eldoret town and neighbouring counties of Western Kenya.
“Through an intelligence led operation, our officers managed to recover 59 motorbikes and 35 dismantled engines in a garage located in Kapsoya estate in the outskirts of Eldoret town,” states Mwanthi who was accompanied by the County Director of Criminal Investigations officer Daniel Muleli.
