DCI nabs 4 in multi-county drug crackdown

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have nabbed four men linked to drug traffiking recovering a substantial haul of cannabis sativa across the country.

In a post on the DCI official X account on Monday, April 20, 2026, the DCI confirmed that the arrest followed a series of intelligence-led operations to curb narcotics trafficking.

“In a series of intelligence-led operations to curb narcotics trafficking, police officers have arrested drug peddlers, recovering a substantial haul of cannabis sativa across the country. In Nakuru, the law caught up with a 32-year-old man,” DCI stated

“While he thought he was blending in, eagle-eyed officers on patrol pounced. A swift search of his backpack revealed Cannabis Sativa cleverly concealed ready for the streets. His distribution ring was cut short before the next delivery,” DCI narrated.

Elsewhere, in Bumula, Bungoma County, acting on a tip-off, officers intercepted a speeding motorcycle. Two persons of intrest, were found in possession of four bales of bhang.

Similarly, in Kaptalamwa, Elgeyo Marakwet, the crackdown claimed one trafficker. Another man was cornered while in possession of 172 rolls of bhang. The DCI has confirmed that all persons of interest are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment.

Meanwhile, the recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits. These operations underscore the National Police Service’s commitment in the war against narcotics trafficking in the country.

Embu crackdown

A multi-agency security team has intensified a crackdown on drugs in Embu County, leading to the arrest of four persons of interest during a targeted operation in Embu Township.

According to the statement by the National Police Service on Sunday, April 19, 2026, officers conducted a coordinated raid on a suspected drug den, where the four individuals were apprehended inside the premises.

“In a recent operation conducted within Embu Township, officers executed a targeted raid on a suspected drug den. During the operation, four persons of interest were apprehended inside the premises,” the NPS report stated.

Items recovered

A search of the house yielded 549 rolls of cannabis sativa, alongside a metallic container believed to be a grinder used in processing the substance, among other items.

“A thorough search of the house led to the recovery of several exhibits, including 549 rolls of cannabis sativa, a metallic container believed to be a grinder used in the processing of cannabis, among other items,” NPS said.

According to the police, all persons of interest were taken to Embu Police Station, where they are still being held awaiting arraignment.
