The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has formed special undercover squads to deal with violent crimes in the Kisumu and some parts of Nyanza region.

Already, numerous suspects behind the reported crimes and hotspots have been identified for the targeted and intelligence-led operations.

Nyanza Region police commander Patrick Tito yesterday said though the region had experienced a decrease in crime incidents in the last few weeks, investigations had revealed that violent criminals were on the prowl and were being sought.

The police boss revealed that some of the criminals were posing as body guards and private security officers of the local politicians and when not engaged, they were involved in criminal activities. “We already have undercover teams on the ground.

We have also recovered dozens of suspected stolen gadgets including mobile phones in the operations and we hope to crack the cases,” he said.

On Sunday, for example, three suspects who have been waylaying members of the public and robbing them valuables along Kisumu-Nairobi were arrested by undercover officers drawn from Kasagam Police Station.
