DCI condemns attack on Senator Godfrey Osotsi as probe intensifies
By Kiprono Keileb, April 8, 2026The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has condemned an attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the DCI described the attack as brazen and cowardly.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) strongly condemns the brazen and cowardly attack on Vihiga Senator Hon. Godfrey Osotsi that occurred at Java House-West End Mall in Kisumu,” DCI wrote.

The DCI also extended their wishes for the Senator’s recovery, while expressing concern for his family and the residents of Vihiga County following the incident.
“We wish the Senator a swift and full recovery. Our thoughts are also with his family members and the people of Vihiga County following this unfortunate incident,” the statement reads.
Investigators said the motive behind the attack is still unknown, noting that detectives are following critical leads obtained from a detailed review of CCTV footage from the scene.
“At this stage, the motive behind the attack has not been established. Our detectives are actively pursuing very crucial leads following a detailed forensic analysis of the available CCTV footage,” the statement reads.
The DCI further urged the public to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified information, assuring that investigations are being handled professionally and updates will be shared as progress is made.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm, refrain from speculation, and allow investigations to proceed without interference. The DCI is fully committed to getting to the bottom of this matter and will ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. Members of the public will be kept informed as investigations progress,” the statement reads.

DCI added that they remain focused on gathering evidence and tracking down those behind the attack, as attention now turns to the outcome of the ongoing investigations.
Osotsi injured in Kisumu attack, airlifted to Nairobi
Osotsi suffered injuries in an attack in Kisumu on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, and he was airlifted to Nairobi for treatment.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna broke the news on his X account. He said he had spoken to Osotsi’s team and confirmed the details.
“I have spoken to Senator Osotsi’s team and confirmed that he was viciously attacked and injured in Kisumu earlier today when he went to get a haircut,” Sifuna wrote.
“The Senator is being airlifted to Nairobi as we speak.”

Sifuna added that he condemns the attack and wants police to act quickly against those responsible.
The incident happened in while Osotsi visited a barber in Kisumu. Attackers struck him without warning. Details about the number of assailants or the weapons used remain unclear.
