DCI arrest man linked to viral 2027 elections threat in Nakuru

In a statement by the DCI on Saturday, June 13, 2026, the detectives confirmed that the person of interest, a 52-year-old, was apprehended in Nakuru West.
According to the DCI, he was arrested in the Shabab area following investigations into the widely circulated video that drew the attention of security agencies.
“Detectives in Nakuru West have apprehended a 52-year-old man following the circulation of a viral video in which he made inflammatory remarks and issued violent threats concerning the upcoming 2027 General Election,” DCI stated.
At the same time, the detectives identified the person of interest as a self-proclaimed traditional healer and a speaker for a local “Bunge la Mwananchi.”

According to detectives, the person of interest was apprehended as part of ongoing efforts to curb incitement and hate speech.

Viral inflammatory utterances
In a report by the DCI, the person of interest was seen inciting unlawful assembly by threatening armed violence and calling for resistance against authority.

The arrest comes as security agencies intensify surveillance and enforcement actions targeting hate speech, incitement and other offences deemed likely to disrupt public order during the election cycle.
Meanwhile, the detectives confirmed that the person of interest is currently in custody, where he is being processed and interrogated as the investigation continues.
