DCI arrest 3 linked to a Ksh22.4 million Sacco heist in Imenti North
By Cynthia Lodite, June 11, 2026Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three persons of interest linked to a Ksh22.4 million sacco heist in Imenti North.
In a statement by the DCI on Thursday, June 11, 2026, the Detectives confirmed that the three siphoned the money from a savings and credit cooperative society (SACCO).
“Detectives from Imenti North have arrested three individuals implicated in a fraud scheme that siphoned off more than Sh22.4 million from a savings and credit cooperative society (SACCO),” DCI stated.
According to the DCI, the investigation uncovered a complex fraud network, where the three persons of interest wielded technology as their weapon, manipulating the SACCO’s computerised financial systems to enrich themselves at the expense of hardworking members.
In the DCI reports, at the centre of the scandal was the SACCO’s ICT Assistant Officer, who, according to the DCI, masterminded the crime.
Further inquiries revealed that accounts linked to four others served as conduits for receiving and withdrawing the stolen funds.
“The first breakthrough of the case came on June 4, 2026, when one was apprehended, with authorities securing custodial orders to aid their relentless pursuit of justice,” DCI stated

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, detectives executed a well-planned operation, leading to the arrest of the three key persons of interest.
During the operation, officers seized several mobile phones and a company laptop, all earmarked for forensic analysis to unravel the full extent of this elaborate scheme.
“What was supposed to be a haven for savings has turned into a nightmare for many, with evidence indicating that a conspiracy involving multiple suspects was at play, utilising the SACCO’s electronic systems to orchestrate their fraud,” DCI noted.
According to the DCI, the three are currently in custody and awaiting arraignment.
At the same time, the DCI also hinted that the three individuals could be just the tip of the iceberg, as investigations continue to unearth additional perpetrators in this shocking betrayal of trust.
“Detectives remain committed to safeguarding the interests of the community and ensuring that those who are responsible face the full force of the law,” DCI stated.
