CS Opiyo Wandayi mourns MP Jared Okello’s mother’s death in moving tribute

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has condoled with the family of Nyando Member of Parliament Jared Okello following the passing of his mother, Mama Doris Okello.

In a heartfelt statement on his X account on May 5 2026, Wandayi described the late Mama Doris as a woman of great generosity and humility, recalling his personal interactions with her as impactful and inspiring.

“I condole with Hon. Jared Okello and his family on the passing of his beloved mother, Mama Doris Okello. I had the privilege to interact with Mama Doris and felt her generosity and humility,” Wandanyi stated.

He noted that her legacy would endure in the lives of those who knew and worked with her, emphasising that she leaves behind a strong imprint of kindness and compassion.

“Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and worked with her,” Wandayi said.

ODM confirms the death of Okello

The ODM, through its social media platforms, confirmed the passing of Okello’s mother and posted messages of condolence to the MP.

“Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Hon. Jared Okello, MP for Nyando, following the passing of the family matriarch, Mama Doris Okello,” stated ODM Party.

The party revealed that Mama Doris Okello died on the night of May 5 2026; however did not disclose the cause of the death.

The party went further to send the MP messages of condolences, putting him in thoughts and prayers during the difficult time.

“We pray to God to guide the family and give them strength, comfort and peace during this difficult time of grief. May the Soul of Mama Doris RIP,” ODM Party wrote.
