CS Mvurya cautions leaders over inciting youth to cause unrest

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has issued a stern warning to political leaders and other individuals who incite young people to violence, urging them to stop exploiting youth energy for selfish political gains.

Speaking at Masinde Muliro University Grounds in Kakamega County on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, during the commemoration of International Youth Day, Mvurya highlighted that some leaders manipulate young people to achieve their personal ambitions when their own dreams fail to materialise.

“This world is full of people with jealousy and mischief. It’s full of others who, when their dreams don’t come true, look for a young person to help them fulfil their dreams,” Mvurya said.

The CS criticised them for lacking direction, stating that they have achieved their own goals and are exploiting the potential of young people for personal gain.

“I have also seen that sometimes politicians who lack direction, who lack a network, now use young people to bring chaos,” he explained.

“Those people who incite our youths to violence, most of them have already arrived at their career, they have already arrived at their destination,” Mvurya stated.

Message to youths

Mvurya directly addressed the youth, warning them against being manipulated by political leaders for violent purposes.

“You young people should know that when you are being used by a politician or anyone else to bring chaos, know that you are not pursuing your dream in chaos – you are helping someone else pursue their dream,” he rallied.

The Sports CS argued that violence creates an environment that is incompatible with progress and youth development.

“Because in an environment of violence, we cannot have prosperity, we cannot have our youths to realise their potential in an environment where there’s lawlessness, in an environment where violence is encouraged,” he noted.

He called for the protection of young people’s energy and innovation from exploitation by individuals seeking to create divisions in the country.

“Let us not allow the energy of young people, the innovation of young people to be used by a few people to create divisions among our country, to create disharmony, to create violence,” he stated.
