CS Murkomen reveals plans to build state of art media facility to boost content production
Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed government’s plan to build state-of-the-art media facilities at the Konza Technopolis, aimed at unlocking the potential of the creative and digital economy.
Murkomen in a statement shared via his official X account on Monday, December 2, 2024, stated that projects like the Digital Media City and a Smart Sports Complex will be put up at Konza.
According to Murkomen, the projects will drive investment, creating thousands of jobs and positioning Kenya as a hub for innovation in media, entertainment and sports.
“The Konza Technopolis is poised to transform Kenya’s creative and sports industries with projects like the Digital Media City and a Smart Sports Complex envisioned. These state-of-the-art facilities will unlock the potential of the creative and digital economy, driving investment, creating thousands of jobs and positioning Kenya as a hub for innovation in media, entertainment and sports,” Murkomen stated.
Murkomen further revealed that the Digital Media City that will be developed in partnership with the Republic of Korea will occupy 160 acres.
It is set to serve as a one-stop shop for content production, training and research.
Murkomen on facility’s features
The CS went ahead to reveal that the facility will feature infrastructure and programs in gaming, animation, filming, photography, entertainment and software development.
“The Digital Media City, to be developed in partnership with the Republic of Korea, will occupy 160 acres and serve as a one-stop shop for content production, training and research. It will feature infrastructure and programs in gaming, animation, filming, photography, entertainment and software development, offering professional skilling and commercial services to grow Kenya’s creative economy,” he stated.
Murkomen made the revelations after his tour of the project, alongside Konza Technopolis Development Authority CEO John Paul Okwiri.
Murkomen lauds Konza
He lauded Konza’s rapid development stating that it would help propel Kenya into becoming a regional leader in innovation, sports and the creative economy.
“This transformative development complements other milestones at Konza, including the operational Konza National Data Centre, the Open University of Kenya and the near-complete Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
“During my tour with Konza Technopolis Development Authority CEO John Paul Okwiri, I was inspired by the city’s futuristic vision and its potential to spur economic growth, attract local and international investors and drive job creation. With Konza’s rapid development, Kenya is on the path to becoming a regional leader in innovation, sports and the creative economy,” Murkomen stated.
