CS Miano hails UDA grassroots elections as boost for Kenya’s economic agenda
By Cy Muganda, January 10, 2026Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has praised the ongoing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections, saying they reinforce the foundations of Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
In a statement posted on her X account on Saturday, January 10, 2026, after participating in the party elections at Kimaru Primary School in Kiriita Ward, Ndaragwa, Nyandarua County, Miano described the event as a reflection of the country’s vibrant democratic spirit.
“By participating in these grassroots elections, we ensure each voice is fundamental in our national decision-making,” she stated.

The Tourism CS drew a direct connection between internal party democracy and Kenya’s broader development goals, particularly in positioning the country as a premier global destination.
“As we work to position Kenya as a premier global destination, the stability and inclusivity of our internal institutions remain a critical pillar of our national progress,” Miano said.
She further emphasised that strengthening the ruling party from the grassroots level is key to reinforcing the foundation needed to implement the government’s economic transformation agenda.
“Strengthening the political party from grassroot will definitely reaffirm our foundation for the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA),” Miano stated.
Miano congratulated all participants for conducting a peaceful and well-organised electoral exercise, underscoring the importance of maintaining democratic norms even in internal party processes.
“Hongera to all participants for a peaceful and organised exercise!” she said.
Nationwide practice
The UDA grassroots elections, which kicked off on January 10, 2026, are being conducted across the country to fill various party positions at the ward, constituency, and county levels as the ruling party seeks to strengthen its organisational structures ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking after casting his vote at Koilel Primary School in Uasin Gishu County on Saturday, President William Ruto commended all candidates who came forward to serve as party grassroots officials, describing the exercise as integral to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
“I commend all the candidates for stepping forward in numbers far beyond expectation to offer leadership at the grassroots. Their commitment strengthens our party and advances the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which is anchored on inclusive growth and shared prosperity,” he stated.
