CS Magoha not in a hurry to open schools

By , May 29, 2020

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has said his Ministry is not in a hurry to reopen schools. The CS said he is focusing on mitigation measures for the education sector to combat coronavirus.

Magoha was responding to calls from different stakeholders over cautionary measures to allow 2020 KCSE and KCPE candidates to resume studies for the third term.

In his statement on May 26, CS Magoha said his ministry has ruled out resumption of classroom studies by September citing increasing coronavirus numbers in the country.

“The Ministry wishes to note that the Covid-19 situation obtaining during the time when the Committee collected views from all stakeholders has sharply changed this week when the infection rates hit three-digit figures,” said the CS.

Asked about the private schools that have claimed to be having effective online classes now in their second term, the CS said all schools are currently closed.
