CS Cheptumo urges parents to nurture children with Kenyan cultural values

In a statement posted on her X account on Friday, January 16, 2026, CS Cheptumo said she made the remarks while attending the Taptengelel Festival in Nandi, a significant celebration of Kenyan cultural heritage.

Parental responsibility
The CS stated that culture must be preserved and embraced as a pillar of Kenya’s national character, emphasising the critical role parents play in passing down cultural values to the next generation.
“I emphasised the importance of parental responsibility in nurturing children grounded in progressive cultural values,” Cheptumo stated.
She stressed that cultural preservation is essential for maintaining national identity and fostering unity among diverse communities.
“Our culture must be preserved and embraced as a pillar of National identity and unity,” the CS said.
Leveraging technology
CS Cheptumo encouraged young Kenyans to use technology responsibly to promote and showcase the richness of Kenyan culture on the global stage.
“I further encouraged the youth to responsibly leverage technology to promote and showcase the richness of Kenyan culture on the global stage,” she stated.
The Cabinet Secretary called on Kenyans to speak positively about the country and safeguard its heritage for future generations.
“As a Country we must continue to speak positively about Kenya and safeguard our heritage for future generations,” Cheptumo said.
