Twenty-nine operators of bars and wine and spirits shops have been arrested in connection with sale of contraband and illicit liquor in Bondo Sub-county.

They were seized during an early morning crackdown by a multi-agency team in accordance with a presidential directive.

The multi-agency team, led by Bondo DCC Julius Otieno, comprised officials from Nacada, KRA public health department and administrators from the county and National governments.

According to Bondo sub-county deputy county commissioner Julius Otieno, the swoop targetted bars, wine shops and ‘changaa’ dens selling contraband and second generation illicit drinks.

“Today we conducted a crackdown in Bondo town, Usigu and Usenge trading centre to weed out those involved in the illegal trade”, he said.

He revealed that Bondo town and its environs has had rampant illicit brew from neighbouring Uganda.
