Crackdown on criminal gangs as 9 persons of interest arrested in Trans Nzoia

Nine persons of interest linked to a notorious criminal gang have been arrested following an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal groups in Trans Nzoia West Sub-County.

The operation was conducted by a joint team of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters and Kitale Police Station.

According to a statement shared by the dCI on their social media pages on Friday, May 1, 2026, the team focused on the Premium and Tuwani areas, which have recently experienced increased gang activity.

“Nine suspected members of a notorious criminal gang have been arrested in a decisive, intelligence-led operation targeting criminal groups in Trans Nzoia West Sub-County. The operation, carried out by a joint team of officers from DCI Headquarters and Kitale Police Station, zeroed in on Premium and Tuwani areas, hotspots that have recently been plagued by gang activity.”

Acting on credible intelligence, the officers carried out a coordinated swoop that led to the arrest of the nine individuals, disrupting a group that has been terrorising residents and interfering with public order.

The arrested persons of interest are currently in custody, undergoing processing as they await arraignment in court.

This comes days after a coordinated security operation in Trans-Nzoia County also led to the arrest of a person of interest linked to mobilising goons who are responsible for criminal activities in the region.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Administration Police Service, and the General Service Unit (GSU), working together with local police, arrested the goon mobiliser following intelligence-led operations.

According to a statement shared by sleuths from DCI on Thursday, April 23, 2026, during the raid at his residence, officers recovered several items believed to be used in illegal mobilisation activities, including reflector jackets, stickers, swords, and other materials.

“In a well-coordinated crackdown on criminal elements in Trans-Nzoia County, a team of officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, the Administration Police Service headquarters, and the General Service Unit (GSU) headquarters, alongside officers from Trans Nzoia, have apprehended a prime suspect implicated in the mobilisation and financing of goons within the region.”
