CRA, CoG meet over equitable share to counties

By , February 1, 2023

The Commission for Revenue Allocation (CRA), National Treasury, and the Council of Governors (CoG) today held a consultative meeting to agree on equitable share to counties.

The meeting comes just days after a meeting convened by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua between the three institutions failed to agree on the revenue sharing formula.

The deadlock came after parties for hours fronted different amounts to be the standard equitable share with the governors demanding for Ksh425 billion.

An amount countered by the CRA which recommended for Ksh407 billion.

On its part, the National Treasury said it can only increase the current amount of Ksh370 billion to Ksh380 billion.

Following the impasse, DP Gachagua said governors will be meeting President William Ruto in early February to discuss the same and agree on amounts.

Currently, counties’ pending bills stand at Ksh152.5 billion.

Of this amount, only Ksh45.5 billion were declared eligible with the remaining amount, Ksh107 billion being declared ineligible.
