Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) yesterday assured that it awarded the 1.2 million candidates their results based on the work they presented.
Chief Executive David Njengere said the national examiner processed results of the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education diligently to ensure each candidate is awarded their results based on work done.
“For the objective questions, Knec undertook machine scoring of the candidate’s OMR answer sheets,” said Njengere.
Speaking during the release of the 2021 KCPE results, Knec declared that it would employ all means within its ability to ensure certification of the education system remains credible, valid and reliable.
Knec assured that its goal is to completely eradicate cartels that mislead continue to lie to candidates that they will aid them in cheating.
Njengere also said the candidates were examined in seven subjects and tested in nine papers. For effective administration of the KCPE examination, Knec engaged the services of 174,910 professionals, drawn from the ministries of Education and Interior respectively, Teachers Service Commission and other Government agencies.
Centre managers
He lauded all the field officers who rendered their services to ensure successful administration of KCPE examination and particularly, the 4,970 centre managers who hosted 6,863 centres that had registered less than 30 candidates.
This, he said, enhanced efficiency and cost effectiveness in administration of the examination.
Similarly, Knec engaged the services of 5,567 examiners for marking of English Composition and Kiswahili Insha answer scripts.
Knec Chairman, John Onsati, said the innovations they put in place have yielded gains towards effective administration of the 2021 national exams.
For instance, he said, the merger of exam centres, a practice that has been in place previously but on small-scale, has enhanced cost effectiveness in the process.
“I wish to assure that any isolated challenges experienced with regards to centres being hosted will be addressed to ensure the initiative is implemented with full success at subsequent exams,” he stated.
