Coronavirus: A six-month-old baby among the 80 cases confirmed today

A six-months-old baby is among the 80 newest coronavirus cases confirmed on May 21 which brought the total to 1,109.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the number of positive cases is increasing alarmingly.

“As we warned yesterday, the number is keeping on increasing and today we have 80 more cases out of the 3,102 tested,” said Mr.Kagwe

In total, the Ministry has tested 52, 507 samples. CS Kagwe said health departments have immensely increased the volume of testing.

The Ministry also discharged 9 more patients which brought the recoveries to 375. Fatalities remain 50.

Nairobi led with 41 of the most recent cases followed by Mombasa with 20. Siaya has a total of seven cases.

In Siaya, he said mourners moved from Kibera to Siaya for a burial where they are believed to have infected other people. Medical officers from Siaya County notified the Ministry about the patients.

The mourners are believed to have colluded with security officers who cleared them to leave Nairobi.

Besides giving coronavirus updates, Mr. Kagwe said his ministry is also focusing on the country’s readiness to combat disease outbreaks. He noted there was a cholera outbreak in Garissa on April 26 and later spread to other Wajir, Turkana, and Murang’a.
