Contractor wants Sh3.5m from Didmus for assault

A contractor who was allegedly assaulted by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa wants the Constituency Development Fund to pay him, lest he takes legal action.

Contractor Stephen Masinde renovated five classrooms at Lurare Baptist Primary School in Kimilili constituency last year, at a cost of Sh3.5 million, but has not been paid to date.

He says on the day of handing over the renovated classrooms, the MP assaulted him for locking up the classes over non-payment. “He used to make calls when we were working but as soon as we painted the classes, he stopped picking my calls.”

Masinde, who is also a secular music artiste, said although he was assaulted, he has withdrawn the case from court and just wants payment for the work done.

He adds that Barasa urged him to withdraw the case so that he could facilitate quick payment of the Sh3.5 million contract.

Kimilili fund manager Paul Adome said Masinde did a good job but is yet to be paid. Contacted, Didmus retorted: “I don’t respond to nonsense. Find something meaningful to do, or write about.”
